London: All-rounder Moeen Ali was on Tuesday added to the England men’s Test squad for the second Test against India at Lord’s, starting on Thursday.
Moeen, who is leading Birmingham Phoenix in the inaugural edition of the Hundred, has been in fine form, scoring 189 runs so far in six outings.
However, the all-rounder hasn't featured in red-ball cricket in almost six months. He last played Test cricket in February in the second Test in Chennai during England’s tour of India.
Ali, 34, is expected to join the squad on Tuesday and is in contention to feature in the XI straightaway as England attempt to balance a side missing key all-rounder Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes.
Notably, England were unable to find a place for a frontline spinner in the team that drew the first Test.
England Men’s Test Squad: Joe Root (Captain), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Dom Bess, Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler, Zak Crawley, Sam Curran, Haseeb Hameed, Dan Lawrence, Jack Leach, Craig Overton, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Dom Sibley, Mark Wood (UNI)
