Kerala boy selected by Qatar Football team will play against India in World Cup qualifying round

Kannur: A 19-year-old youth Tahsin Mohammed Jamshid of Valappatnam of the district has been selected in the 29-member Qatar national football squad to participate in the World Cup Qualifying round. He became the first player of Indian origin to be selected for the Qatar national team.
 
Tahsin, a winger player will play for Qatar against his motherland India in the second match of the World Cup qualifying round on June 11 at Doha stadium. He will also play against Afghanistan on June 6 in their first match.
 
Tahsin's father Jamshid and mother Shalima, hail from Thalassery and Valapatnam in the district. Jamshid, was employed as a Chief accountant in a company. Tahsin is the second son of the couple and they moved to Qatar several years back. Tahsin was born in Qatar, however, he holds an Indian passport and also took a temporary mission passport of Qatar.
 
Tahasin entered the football team of Qatar in its youth team and later played for their under 16,17 and 19 national teams. He was a member of Al Duhail team in Qatar Star's football league and played his debut match against Al Rayyan on March 31, 2024. He was selected to the Qatar national team while playing for Al Duhail senior team.
 
Tahsin learns the basic training of football from his father, Jamshid, who was a former player of the Calicut University football team and has been given coaching to the Aspire Football team in Qatar.
