NIA conducts raids across 5 states in Jaish e Mohammed case

National Investigation Agency sleuths conducted searches at 22 locations in five states in a case related to activities of banned Jaish-e-Mohammad, officials said on Saturday.

The searches were being conducted in Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh , Assam and Delhi, they said.Officials said the NIA teams are being assisted by local authorities to carry out the searches.


The spokesperson of the NIA said searches are being carried out at 22 locations in five states in a case registered in the Delhi wing of the Agency.“The searches are being carried out in case RC-13/24/NIA/DLI. The case relates to activities of JeM,” NIA said.

The JeM was founded by Maulana Masood Azhar, one of the three militants who were released in exchange for IC 814 passengers in 1999. Jaish was enlisted as a "Designated Foreign Terrorist Organisation" by the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSC) Masood Azhar was designated as "Global Terrorist" in 2019 by the UNSC.

Former SIMI member under scanner in Maharashtra

In a mega operation, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has raided multiple locations in Maharashtra in relation to terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed.According to reports on Saturday, the central agency got a tip-off relating to terrorist activities related to activities of the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror outfit group.

During the raid, several persons were detained in Sambhaji Nagar, Jalna, and Malegaon.In Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, NIA officials raided a property in Kiradpura early in the morning, detaining Maulana Syed Ilyas, a local prayer leader and madrasa.teacher, at around 9 am

The operation also led to the detention of two other suspects from the N-6 area. All three are currently being interrogated at the Sambhajinagar ATS office.

In the powerloom city of Malegaon, Mukhtar Ansari, a former member of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), is being interrogated by NIA officials for his suspected links to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).

As part of the ongoing crackdown, NIA officers, with the support of local police, raided a homoeopathy clinic in Abdullah Nagar, located on Mashriki Iqbal Road. The operation, which is still underway, focusses on dismantling potential terror networks connected to JeM.(UNI)
