Rajkot Test: India declares on 649/9, Jadeja hits maiden ton

Rajkot: India declared its innings on 649 runs for the loss of nine wickets against West Indies on the second day of the first Test match at Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) Stadium, Rajkot on Friday. 
All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja an unbeaten 100 off 132 off balls. Though, on the other side of the crease, wickets were falling one after another, but Jadeja kept hitting the ball all over the park to get past India 600-run mark. 

During his innings, he hit five fours and as much sixes, while Virat Kohli scored 139 runs off 230 balls. He was dismissed by Sherman Lewis. Devendra Bishoo bagged four wickets for 217 runs in 54 overs. 
 
India added 142 runs in their overnight score of 364 runs to take its tally to 506 runs for five wickets till lunch against West Indies on day two of the first Test match of the two-match Test series.

Virat Kohli scored hundred to become the fastest to reach 24 Test century since Australia's Sir Don Bradman, who reached the mark in 66 innings. It took him 123 innings to reach the mark.
 
During the course of this innings, Kohli completed his 1,000 runs in this calendar year.Before lunch, India added 142 more runs on the scoreboard with an economy of 4.89. West Indies bowlers were seen under pressure due to high score and dominant batting by Pant and Virat. Rishabh Pant was the first man to go. He missed his second Test Ton as he was caught by K M G Paul on Devendra Bishoo's bowling for 92 runs off 84 balls, hitting eight boundaries and four sixes.
 
At the time of Lunch, Ravindra Jadeja (19)and Virat Kohli (120) were on the crease.Devendra Bishoo bagged four wickets for 217 runs in 54 overs. 
 
The 18-year-old Prithvi Shaw hit ton to become the youngest Indian to score a Test century on his debut; he scored 134 runs off 154 balls, hitting 19 boundaries.  Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat first. Prithvi Shaw and KL Rahul opened Indian innings. India got off to a bad start as in a very first over, Rahul was dismissed by Shannon Gabriel on duck when India's score was just three runs. India scored 364 runs on the opening day.
 
Then, Cheteshwar Pujara and Shaw stitched together a partnership of 206 runs for the second wicket to get India past 200-run mark. Pujara missed his ton as he was caught behind by Shane Dowrich on Sherman Lewis bowling at his individual score of 86 runs.
 
India lost its third wicket in the form of the debutant Shaw. Devendra Bishoo, leg-break bowler, bowled in line, which was going away from Shaw, he chased the ball to play back to the bowler to hand Bishoo a simple catch, bringing his memorable innings to an end.
 
Ajinkya Rahane scored 41 runs off 92 ball, he was dismissed by Roston Chase. At the stumps, India were 364 for the loss of four wickets in 89 overs. Virat Kohli with 72 runs and Risabh Panth 17 runs is still at the crease.West Indies' four bowlers got one wicket each-Shannon Gabriel, Sherman Lewis, Bishoo, Chase.(UNI)
