Tokyo Olympics: Despite 7 stitches, boxer Satish Kumar took ring for quarters, but goes down to World No. 1 Jalolov

Tokyo: Indian boxer Satish Kumar crashed out of Tokyo 2020 after losing to Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov in the quarter-final of the men's +91kg, here on Sunday.

Carrying an injury from his pre-quarters match, Satish took the ring despite receiving seven stitches on his forehead and chin. He was given medical clearance to fight earlier in the morning.

The 32-year-old Satish put up a spirited performance in the fight but lost to the Uzbekistan boxer 0-5 by unanimous decision at the Ryogoku Kokugikan arena.

With Satish's loss, all five Indian men boxers have been knocked out of the tournament. The other four boxers had lost in their respective opening rounds.

Now, only Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) is in the fray from of the nine-member Indian boxing team at Tokyo Olympics.

Lovlina has already confirmed a medal by advancing to the semi-final. (UNI)
