Travis Head has cemented his place among the top run-scorers in day-night Test cricket, bringing up his third century in the format with a magnificent knock at the Adelaide Oval here on Saturday.

The home fans erupted in celebration as Head reached the milestone with a flick wide of mid-wicket off Ravichandran Ashwin, a shot that also brought up signature "rock the baby" celebration, with his wife and young child cheering from the stands. Following this, Head placed his bat-handle on his helmet, another of his iconic gestures, as the spectators went wild with appreciation.

Head’s remarkable century at Adelaide comes at a crucial time for Australia, highlighting his ability to counterattack and put the opposition under pressure. Known for being India's nemesis, Head has delivered key performances against them in the past, including his vital contribution in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup final. His record at Adelaide Oval has always been strong, and today’s century only adds to his stellar achievements at this iconic venue.

In the wider context of day-night Tests, Head’s century places him among an exclusive group of top batsmen. Leading the pack is Australian teammate Marnus Labuschagne with Four centuries, while Head’s name now joins those of Asad Shafiq and Dimuth Karunaratne, each with two centuries in day-night Tests.

Despite a rare King Pair earlier in the year in the Brisbane Day-Night Test against the West Indies, Head has bounced back in style, demonstrating his resilience and consistency in the pink-ball format. His brilliant innings today not only enhances his own legacy but also strengthens Australia’s position as the team looks to build momentum in the match.(UNI)
