Gonda (UP): Amid the ongoing tussle between the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and the players, the Union Sports Ministry has suspended the important meeting of the federation convened at the Royal Heritage Hotel located on the Gonda-Ayodhya border in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.

According to sources, the meeting was scheduled to be held at 11 am and WFI office-bearers from all over the country had reached Gonda, but the situation has changed after the decision of the Sports Ministry.

Joint Secretary of the WFI Vinod Tomar gave the information about the meeting at a press conference held at Nandini Nagar. Terming the allegations levelled against WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Tomar had said not as the president, but Singh could attend the meeting to keep his point.

After this statement of Vinod Tomar, the Sports Ministry took action and suspended him late on Saturday night. After suspending Tomar, the Sport Ministry has banned the annual general body meeting of the WFI.

The Sports Ministry has directed Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh not to make any statement on the allegations till the investigation is done. Along with this, the Ministry has also canceled the three-day Senior National Open Wrestling Championship tournament that started on Saturday in Nandini Nagar.

Sharing its information on its official Twitter handle, the Ministry has also directed to refund the entry fees of all the players involved in the championship. (UNI)
