Pune: Pooja Vastrakar's sensational spell with the ball helped Supernovas a crushing 49-run win over Trailblazers in the opening match of Women’s T20 Challenge 2022 at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium here on Monday.
Chasing 164-run target, Trailblazers were right in the chase up until the 7-over mark as it was a good wicket to bat on. Smriti Mandhana got off to a flier, but things fell apart after she lost her wicket as Vastrakar bowled a spectacular spell to finish with figures of 4 for 12.
Other bowlers - Alana King (2/30), Megha Singh (1/16) and Sohie Ecclestone (1/19) also raised the bar as Trailblazers were reduced to 73 for 7 from 62 for 1.
Batting first, Supernovas put on the highest-ever total of 163 all out in the Women's T20 Challenge.
Deandra Dottin (32 off 17 5x4s 1x6), Harleen Deo (35 off 19 5x4s) and Harmanpreet Kaur (37 off 29 4x4s), gave a powerpact start.
At one point it appeared that the Supernovas would get close to 200, but they lost too many wickets in the death. (UNI)
