Dubai: In a stunning turn of events, India's hopes of progressing in WT20WC were dashed as New Zealand Women secured a comprehensive 54-run victory over Pakistan, booking their spot in the semifinals for the first time since 2016.

New Zealand posted a modest total of 110/6 in their 20 overs, with Eden Carson emerging as the Player of the Match for her all-around contribution here on Monday.

Pakistan, in their attempt to chase down the target, crumbled under pressure, being bowled out for just 56 runs in 11.4 overs.

Pakistan's fielding left much to be desired, with a staggering eight chances dropped, costing them dearly. Spin bowler Nashra Sandhu and her fellow tweakers led an admirable bowling effort, but their fielders faltered repeatedly.

Nida Dar, in particular, was the most unfortunate, as four catches were spilled off her bowling.

In their chase, Pakistan adopted an aggressive strategy, sending Aliya Riyaz to open with Muneeba Ali. However, a flurry of early wickets saw Pakistan slump to 28/5, leaving them in dire straits.

Despite a brief fightback led by Nida Dar and Fatima Sana, Amelia Kerr’s superb bowling, including three wickets in one over, sealed Pakistan’s fate.

The win means New Zealand march into the semifinals, while India, who were relying on a Pakistan victory within 10.4 overs, find themselves eliminated from the tournament.

Brief scores - New Zealand: 110/6 (20 overs); Suzie Bates 28(29), Brooke Halliday 24 (22)

Nashra Sandhu 3/18, Nida Dar 1/26; Pakistan: 56 all out (11.4 overs); Muneeba Ali 15 (11), Fatima Sana 21 (23); Amelia Kerr 3/14, Eden Carson 2/7

Result: New Zealand won by 54 runs.
