The horrific gangrape of a tribal woman in Khandwa district in Madhya Pradesh has caused widespread outrage in the area. According to police, after the gangrape, one of the accused committed an act of extreme cruelty. He put his hand inside the woman’s private parts, causing severe internal injuries. Her intestines came out, and she died due to excessive bleeding.

The incident took place on Friday (May 23) night in Roshni police outpost area, 90 km away from the district. The woman died at around 2.30 pm on Saturday (May 24).

According to the villagers, the woman was found unconscious in the courtyard of one of the accused’s house. When she regained consciousness after some time, she told them about her ordeal. Following this, the police was informed. The woman was brought to the hospital. During this time, she passed away.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (IG) Siddharth Bahuguna and investigating officer and Kalwa police station in-charge inspector Jagdish Scindia said that two accused Hari (40) and Sunil (35) have been arrested.

Quoting the statement given by the accused to the police, the investigating officer Jagdish Scindia said that after the sexual assault, Hari put his hand inside the woman's body, causing her intestines to come out. The accused tried to put the intestines back in, but failed.

The police have not recovered any iron or wooden rods from the spot, however, the police are preparing for the remand of the accused to seize the blood-stained 'bed roll' from the cot from the spot.

Both the accused have been booked on charges of gangrape and murder under sections 103(1), 66 and 70(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Postmortem report reveals brutality

According to the postmortem report, the woman was brutally assaulted and died due to excessive bleeding. "Her intestines had come out, while the uterus remained unharmed. However, there were genital injury marks," Dr Seema Sutay, head of postmortem investigation and forensic expert, said.

Dr Sutay said that the parts of the victim's intestines had protruded externally. "We measured it and over 176 centimetres of intestine had come out of the body. The abdominal intestines were also torn," she said.

She said the intestines only exit the body in such a manner when the surrounding walls or organs are extensively damaged. "Under normal circumstances, internal organs don’t come out like this. This only happens when there's extreme violence involved," she added.
