A school bus driver was arrested for sexually assaulting a 4-year-old boy in Navi Mumbai's Nerul. The accused has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO). He has been remanded in police custody until April 30.
The incident has caused outrage among parents and local residents. They have planned a protest on Monday morning outside the school.
NRI coastal police on Thursday night arrested the 25-year-old accused, identified as Sujit Das.
According to the complainant, after returning home on Thursday, the boy complained of discomfort in his private parts and when probed more by his parents, he replied "bus uncle". Accordingly, the case was registered with the police.
According to police, the complainant has alleged that the alleged sexual assault happened with a pencil-like object which is being verified.
The police are going through CCTV footage of the bus on which the boy travelled to school.
Earlier, two pre-primary girl students were sexually assaulted by a male cleaner in Badlapur in August last year, which led to widespread public outrage.
