In a stomach-churning incident of sexual pleasure, an Indian national in Vietnam inserted a live 2-foot-long eel into his anus. However, the fish attempted to escape by biting through his rectum and colon, entering the abdominal cavity. The doctors successfully performed emergency surgery to save the patient’s life.
The 31-year-old man was admitted to Viet Duc Hospital in Hanoi on July 27 with severe abdominal pain. Following a series of diagnostic tests and imaging, the doctors found an eel lying inside his abdominal cavity.
Doctors attempted to remove the foreign object through the anus but they discovered a large lemon that he had also inserted blocking the way. Hence, doctors opted for an open abdominal surgery.
Upon opening the abdomen, the doctors found a live eel, stretching more than 25 inches long and roughly 4 inches in diameter, inside - which had caused significant damage by biting through the patient’s rectum and colon. The medical team removed the eel and the lemon, and then they stitched him up.

Surgeons also performed a colostomy to prevent fecal matter from passing through the cut made by the eel’s bite. The medical team emphasized that the eel's ability to survive in anaerobic conditions and its capacity to bite through the gastrointestinal tract made the situation particularly dangerous.
The doctors cautioned against inserting live animals or other objects through the anus for seeking intense sensations. The hospital had previously handled cases involving various foreign objects, such as glass cups and sex toys, but this incident was unprecedented due to the involvement of a live animal.
