The villagers, according to police, pelted stones on the officials during demarcation of mining ghats under Belaganj police station in Gaya district. After which the police resorted to mild lathi-charge, used water cannons, and burst tear gas shells to disperse the mob.

Gaya City SP Rakesh Kumar said on Thursday that 10 people were arrested on the charges of causing obstruction in discharge of official duty.

Police used force in response. 10 anti-social elements arrested, rest being identified. Strict action will be taken whenever police is attacked. On the other hand, the villagers claimed that they were protesting mining at the sand ghat and sand mafia men thrashed them. They also alleged that administration and sand mafia Punj Sharma's gang are involved.

Gaya, Bihar | "Some sand mafias arrived & started making demarcations for excavating sand. When we tried to put forth our view they started beating us. Tear gas was shelled. Administration and sand mafia Punj Sharma's gang involved," villagers claimed
