K'taka: 2 killed in police firing after mob took to street over Blasphemous post

Bengaluru:Two people were killed and scores of others were injured when the police opened fire on a mob after violence erupted over an offensive post on a social media platform here in Devarajeevanahalli and Kadugondanahalli police station limits last night, sources said on Wednesday.
According to official sources, the incident happened Tuesday night, when a group of people of a community gathered near KG Halli police station, demanding the arrest of Congress MLA Pulikeshi Nagar's relative for posting an inflammatory post about Prophet Mohammed in a Facebook post.
 
The group pelted stones and torched nearby vehicles near the MLA's house, which was also set on fire by the agitated crowd.The police used tear gas shells to quell the violent protest. Soon after that the mob stormed into the police station and pelted stones on the police personnel.
 
Senior Police officers rushed to the spot to pacify the crowd but they also became the mob's target, sources said, adding, that is when police opened fire that led to the killing of two among the protesters.
 
The police have arrested the MLA's relative for his offensive post online and more than 150 others for comprising the peace and harmony of the society, they added.(UNI)
