Shimla’s iconic Gaiety Theatre resonated with nostalgia and melody as the hill capital paid a grand tribute to the evergreen legend Dev Anand on his 102nd birth anniversary.The special programme, “Dev Anand – A Storytelling and Musical Tribute”, was presented by Delhi’s oldest theatre group, Three Arts Club, in collaboration with Katyayani. For the club, which was founded in Shimla in 1943, last evening also marked an emotional homecoming after more than eight decades.
The tribute was researched, written, directed and narrated by Sohaila Kapur, theatre veteran and Dev Anand’s niece.Lending depth to the performance was the Hindi transcription and co-narration by Nidhikant Pandey, while singer Devanand Jha infused the show with soulful renditions of timeless songs.Produced by theatre enthusiast Anuradha Dar, the presentation was designed to blend storytelling, music, and nostalgia into a rich tapestry that celebrated Dev Anand’s charisma, style, and enduring contribution to Indian cinema.Organisers said the event was not merely a performance but an intimate journey through anecdotes, rare stories and immortal melodies that continue to keep the star alive in the hearts of generations.
