Active covid cases below 10 K, casualties below 100 in past 24 hrs

New Delhi: India on Friday recorded 9,309 new cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, pushing the country caseload to 1,08,80,603, while the death toll mounted to 1,55,447 with 78 more fatalities.
According to the Union Health Ministry, the active cases further shrank by 6,636 to stand at 1,35,926. It is now 1.25 per cent of the total caseload. The distribution of new cases in India in the last 24 hours shows a positive picture with only one state reporting over 1000 cases while the rest of the states and UTs reporting less than 1000 new cases. Four states/UTs have not reported any new cases in the last 24 hours.
 
Of the fresh fatalities, 25 were from Maharashtra, 16 from Kerala and 7 each from Punjab and Karnataka.
 
The past 24 hours saw 15,858 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 1,05,89,230, which is 97.32 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate stood at 1.43 per cent. Maharashtra has reported the maximum number of single day recoveries with 6,107 newly recovered cases. 5,692 people recovered in Kerala in the past 24 hours.According to Health Ministry, 18 States/UTs have not reported any death in the last 24 hours.
 
As per the Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR), 7,65,944 samples were tested on Thursday, taking the total number of tests carried out by the body till date to 20,47,89,784.
 
On the vaccination front, more than75 lakh (75,05,010) beneficiaries have received the vaccination under the countrywide COVID19 vaccination exercise. The total cumulative vaccination coverage includes 58,14,976 healthcare workers (HCWs) and 16,90,034 frontline workers (FLWs). 1,54,370 sessions have been conducted so far.Notably, India is the fastest country to cross the 70 lakh (7 million) vaccination mark.(UNI)
