India reports less than 50k daily new Covid cases for fifth day

New Delhi:For the fifth successive day, India on Thursday reported 47,905 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours after 47,905 people tested positive.
The national capital, Delhi -- reported the highest daily new cases and also its highest tally so far -- with 8,593 new cases, followed by Kerala with 7,007 cases and Maharashtra with 4,907 cases.A total of 550 case fatalities were reported in the past 24 hours while the Case Fatality Rate stood at 1.48 per cent.
 
The trend of new recoveries outnumbering daily new cases continued for the 40th day today with 52,718 new recoveries registered in the last 24 hours.With a contribution of only 5.63 per cent of India's total positive cases, the active caseload stood at 4,89,294, well below the 5 lakh-mark.
 
The Recovery Rate has also been boosted and was up at 92.89 per cent. Total recoveries today are 80,66,501. The gap between Recovered cases and Active cases has steadily widened to 75,77,207.
 
A whopping 78 per cent of the new recovered cases were concentrated in 10 states/UTs.Maharashtra reported 9,164 newly recovered cases followed by 7,264 recovereries in Delhi followed closely by Kerala which reported 7,252 new recoveries.
 
Ten states/UTs accounted for 80 per cent of the 550 case fatalities. Maharashtra accounted for 22.7 per cent share with 125 fatalities. Delhi and West Bengal followed with  85 and 49 new deaths, respectively.(UNI)
