108 PFI activists allegedly involved in riots arrested in 4 days in UP

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh police have arrested as many as 108 activists of the Popular Front of India(PFI) for their involvement in the large scale violence in December over the anti- Citizenship Amendment Act(CAA)/ NRC.
Addressing a joint press conference here on Monday,  Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awinesh Awasthi and DGP Hitesh Chandra Awasthi claimed the arrests were made in different parts of the state during a special drive.
 
In the past, a total of 25 office-bearers and members of the PFI were arrested in the state where the organisation is active in 13 districts.
 
Among those arrested in the past four days, 14 were made from Lucknow, 3 from Sitapur, 21 from Meerut, 9 from Ghaziabad, 6 from Muzaffarnagar, 7 from Shamli, 4 from Bijnore, 20 from Varanasi, 5 from Kanpur, one from Gonda, 16 from Bahriach, and one each from Hapur and Jaunpur districts.
 
It has been proved that the organisation, which received money from different sources , distributed them among the agitators who created violence in the state, they added.(UNI)
