Srinagar: Even as the two-day-long anti-militancy operation in north Kashmir’s Sopore Sub-district ended, J&K Police on Tuesday issued a stern advisory against the circulation of sensitive information related to the operation in which an Army soldier was killed.
On Sunday evening, a joint team of Army and J&K police cordoned off the Gujjar Pati Zaloora in Sopore after receiving inputs about the presence of a militant hideout.
As the joint team zeroed in on the target, the militants opened fire, leading to a brief gunfight in which a soldier Swr Pangala Kartheek was critically wounded. He was then evacuated from the area but succumbed to his wounds.
The search operation continued on Monday, however, no fresh contact with the militants was established.
Inspector General Police, Kashmir V K Birdi said the operation in Sopore has ended.
“The Sopore operation has been closed,” Birdi said.
Meanwhile, the police on Tuesday cautioned individuals against sharing sensitive details about the operation irresponsibly, highlighting the potential risks to state security.
“It is reported that certain persons are circulating/ sharing sensitive details about the Gujjarpati/ Zaloora incident without considering the ramifications of such activism. It is enjoined upon all to desist from such irresponsible practices compromising the security of the state,” Sopore police said in a post on X.
