Guwahati:Assam state unit of BJP will launch a statewide fight against love jihad ahead of the state assembly polls, said North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Himanta Biswa Sarma.

"Social media is a new menace since it is helping in the promotion of love Jihad. Through social media, the Assamese girls are falling prey to love Jihad. This is cultural aggression on our society and later these girls might have to face talaq," Mr Sarma has said.

Mr Sarma said that "When the BJP comes back to power, we will make sure that no Assamese girl is trolled, harassed or become a victim of love Jihad on social media in the hand of people with hidden identity. We will put them into prison. We will have to start a new fight against lover Jihad," said Mr Sarma.

Mr Sarma further said, "500-600 years back, the nation was facing the aggression of Aurangzeb and Babar and now, we have a similar challenge. In this modern era, we have a problem dealing with people like Ajmal. Our society is facing threat from the culture of the Ajmal, in lower and middle Assam. The culture and traditions of the Assamese Satra have been destroyed."

The minister claimed the BJP-led government has been able to make 14,000 hectares of land encroachment-free and give it to the landless indigenous people.(UNI)
