How the State Assembly By-Polls fared up for all the parties

Amid the furore of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh counting the results of few State Assembly seats were also announced. The details of the winning candidates are as follows

Cong retains Bhanupratappur

Raipur: Congress candidate Savitri Mandavi was declared elected on Thursday from Chhattisgarh’s Bhanupratappur Assembly constituency defeating her nearest rival Brahmanand Netam (BJP) by a margin of 21,171 thereby retaining the seat for the ruling Congress; State Election Office sources confirmed.

Ms Mandavi bagged 65,479 votes compared to Mr Netam’s 44,308 while the tribal community’s Akbar Korram was a distant third with 23,417.

The Bhupesh Baghel dispensation’s unbroken winning streak vis-à-vis by-polls thus continued since it assumed the reins in 2018. This by-election was necessitated by the demise of Deputy Speaker Manoj Mandavi. The victorious nominee is his widow.

BJP wins Bihar's Kurhani assembly seat

Patna: BJP candidate Kedar Prasad Gupta defeated his nearest rival Manoj Kushwaha of JD(U) by a margin of more than 3600 votes on Thursday in the by-election for the Kurhani assembly seat of Bihar.Kurhani had gone to the hustings on December 5.

Sources at the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said here that BJP candidate Gupta defeated his nearest rival Kushwaha of JD(U) by a margin of 3632 votes. While Gupta polled 76,648 votes, Kushwaha obtained 73,016 votes.

JD(U) leader Kushwaha was the common candidate of Grand Alliance, comprising a host of parties including RJD and Congress. Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) candidate Nilabh Kumar stood third bagging 9,988 votes.

AIMIM candidate Mohammad Ghulam Murtaza finished far behind polling only 3202 votes. UNI


RLD wrests Khatauli assembly seat from BJP

Muzaffarnagar: Rashtriya Lok Dal candidate (RLD) Madan Bhaiya (Madan Singh Kasana) defeated his nearest rival and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Rajkumari Saini by a margin of 22,165 votes in by-poll for Khatauli assembly seat in Muzaffarnagar district on Thursday.

While Madan Bhaiya received 97,071 votes after 27 rounds of counting, 74,906 votes were polled in the favour of BJP candidate Rajkumari Saini.It is being considered to be a setback for ruling BJP as the seat was previously held by the party.

By-poll on Khatauli seat was necessitated after sitting BJP MLA Vikram Singh Saini was disqualified from the membership of Uttar Pradesh Assembly after being convicted in 2013 Kawal town riots case, which took place in Muzaffarnagar.After its sitting MLA was disqualified, BJP has fielded Vikram Saini's wife Rajkumari from this seat. On the other hand Samajwadi Party (SP), which has alliance with the RLD, has extended support to Madan Bhaiya.(UNI)
