Bengal Congress president Somen Mitra dies, Condolences pour in

New Delhi/Kolkata:Bengal Congress president Somen Mitra passed away at a Kolkata hospital early Thursday following cardiac arrest.He was 78.
Mitra was not keeping well recently and was admitted in the hospital a few days back. His condition deteriorated last night and the end came at 0150 hours.
 
Mitra was first elected to the Bengal Assembly in 1972 as Congress MLA from the Sealdah Assembly Constituency.He was re-elected to the state Assembly in 1977 as Janata Party member.
 
A pall of gloom descended in the political circle hearing the demise of Mitra.Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and a number of senior party leaders condoled his demise.
 
Rahul condoles death of Somen Mitra
New Delhi:Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday expressed his condolences on the death of West Bengal Congress president Somen Mitra. 
 
 ''All my love and support to family and friends of Somen Mitra at this difficult time. We will remember him with love, fondness and respect,'' Rahul said in a tweet. 
 
Somen Mitra died of kidney and heart ailments at a private hospital in Kolkata in the early hours of Thursday.
 
Mitra was 78 and is survived by his son Rohan Mitra, state youth Congress leader, and wife Sikha Mitra, a former legislator.(UNI)
