New Delhi: The BJP Tamil Nadu unit on Tuesday sparked off a row when it tweeted 'sending' snap of a few shaving razors to former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah.
"Dear Omar Abdullah, It's very disheartening to see you like this while most of your corrupt friends are enjoying life outside. Kindly accept our sincere contribution, in case of any assistance feel free to contact your counterpart INC India (Congress party) for further help in this regard," said a missive from BJP Tamil Nadu's twitter handle.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said it was 'unfortunate' to see the snap showing 'a bearded' Omar Abdullah that went viral on social media.

"I could not recognize Omar in this picture. Am feeling sad. Unfortunate that this is happening in our democratic country. When will this end ?" Ms Banerjee had tweeted.

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury also took to the micro blogging site and wrote: "This picture points to a very disturbing fact about the central government. A former CM, who is also a former Union minister, has been detained for months without any charge. And he and his party have been the biggest votaries of India".

The snap of Omar Abdullah with a 'new look' has been the first picture of the 49-year-old National Conference leader since his captivity after the Centre decided to abrogate Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

BJP Tamil Nadu's Twitter missive with snap of trimmer has evoked reactions on the social media as well.

"This is wrong. Completely wrong. BJP Tamil Nadu should think twice before sending trimmer to Omar Abdullah. Omar Abdullah is proud Muslim and he has all rights to keep long beard," went a missive.

Others say - this shows low standard of pubic discourse in contemporary Indian politics.Later the tweet was deleted.(UNI)
