Doctors of two state-owned hospitals resign en-masse to support Juniors

A day after 50 Senior doctors and professors of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital resigned enmasse, senior doctors of West Bengal's premium Calcutta Medical College & Hospital and North Bengal Medical College & Hospital on Wednesday resigned en-masse expressing their solidarity with their juniors, who are on fast unto-death over their 10-point demands, official sources said.

A medic of Calcutta Medical College said around 68 senior doctors and professors resigned and the copy of the resignation was e-mailed to the state health department.Similarly some 50 doctors of NBMCH resigned en-masse and joined the two junior doctors who are on fast in north Bengal.

At Esplanade 7 junior doctors were on fast unto death since Saturday but the government was yet to concede any of the 10-point demands, sources said."We can not allow our juniors, who are like our sons and daughters, to die on the streets," a senior doctor of Calcutta Medical hospital said.

He said the government was allegedly threatening the senior doctors to face consequences like they would not get any retirement benefits and other allowances in case they resign from the services.
"We are the public appointees and not working at the mercy of the government as we havejudiciary to intervene in case of any unlawful action of the state government.'(UNI)
