New Delhi: 'Adopted' daughter of rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, Priyanka Taneja alias Honeypreet Insan on Tuesday came out in open, accusing the media of discrediting a father-daughter relationship and making a traitor out of her. The absconder, who was arrested today after 38 days of hiding, tops the list of Haryana Police's 43 most-wanted people in cases of arson and violence, post Gurmeet's conviction in two rape cases. In an exclusive interview to India Today, Honeypreet said her relations with Gurmeet were pure and that the media was defaming her by showing her in a bad light. 'Can't a father touch his daughter? What evidence do they have to pose such questions?' she said, while answering queries at an undisclosed location.
Asked why she gave a slip to the Police of seven states, who were on a lookout for her, Honeypreet said she was not hiding from anyone, but was suffering from depression and did not know much about the legal processes. "After my father's departure, I became helpless. I did what people guided me to do. I will now go to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. But, it will take me some time to handle my present state of mind." The 'angel' of Ram Raheem claimed that she was branded as a traitor after the court verdict. 'I was stunned by the court's decision.
How can I be made responsible for violence? I didn't speak a word. I was only fulfilling my duties as a daughter,' she added. Rubbishing the allegation that she pressurised Ram Raheem to open a studio and make movies for her, she said, 'I was never interested in movies. I only wanted to direct films, not act in them.' On a question over her former husband Vishwas Gupta and the allegations he levelled against her and Ram Raheem, Honeypreet refused to comment, saying 'I don't want to talk about him.' Honeypreet had accompanied Gurmeet to a Rohtak jail, after his conviction in two rape cases in a chopper. The convict had refused to meet his wife, and had insisted on letting Honeypreet stay with him in jail. (UNI)
