Giridih: Three, including a woman and her daughter, were charred to death while they were sleeping in their farm located at Salaiyadih village under Birni Police Station area of this district.
Though the cause of the fire is still unknown, it is being suspected that the paddy husk piled in the farm might have caught fire and spread across the field, killing the three people.
The deceased have been identified as Mudrika Devi (55), her daughter Gudia Kumari (14) and granddaughter Jhulia Kumari (7).
A police team reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. Sitaram Yadav, son of the deceased, said everyday three of them slept in the farm, located some distance away from their home.
Police quoting neighbours said they saw fire in the farm in the wee hours today and raised an alarm. Using local means they doused the flames, however, by that time the trio had died.
Family members said the fire might have spread from the burning firewood lit by the deceased to keep warm. (UNI)
