Kolkata: The indefinite cease-work by junior medics in West Bengal government hospitals continued on Wednesday as they sought another round of talks with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to ensure action on their demands not accepted by the administration yet.

Dr Aniket Mahato told reporters they would email to the state chief secretary and seek another round of talks with CM Banerjee.

"We have requested more talks with the Chief Minister for our some unfulfilled demands and ensuring safety and security in hospitals where the threat culture has vitiated the atmosphere," said a junior doctor on protest outside the state health secretariat for the 9th day to demand punishment of the health secretary.

The Supreme Court and Banerjee have repeatedly urged doctors to call off their strike as patients have been suffering in Outdoor Patient Departments in government hospitals for 41 days due to the protest.

The medics under the aegis of West Bengal Junior Doctors Front on Tuesday night held a general body meeting and decided to continue their stir demanding justice for alleged lady medic raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, removal of Health Secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam and creation of safe work culture in government hospitals.

While one of their main demand of replacing Kolkata police chief has been implemented with Manoj Kumar Verma taking charge on Tuesday, the protesting doctors expressed displeasure over inaction on their demand for action against other officials, including those from the health department.

The medics held a meeting with the CM at her Kalighat residence which lasted over five hours on September 16 after two such meetings failed to materialise.

The cease-work at the government hospitals began on August 9 when the 31-year-old 2nd year post graduate lady doctor was found raped and murder in R G Kar Medical and Hospital. The hospital was also vandalised in the night of August 14 and medical equipment, medicines and CCTV cameras were destroyed.
