Kolkata: Bangladeshi MP Md Anwarul Azim, who went missing since May 14, was found dead at an apartment in New Town area of Bidhannagar, official sources said on Wednesday.

His dismembered body was reportedly recovered from Sanjiva Garden in Newtown earlier in the day and three people were arrested in this regard.

Veteran Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar, who went missing in India, was found murdered in Kolkata and three people have been arrested, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan announced in Dhaka.

Azim, a three-time Awami League MP, arrived in Kolkata on May 12, and has been missing for the last eight days.

The Jhenaidah-4 Constituency MP came to the state capital for medical treatment on May 12, and initially had put up at the residence of his long associate and friend in the city, Gopal Biswas of Baranagar in north Kolkata.

On May 14, he left Biswas’ residence telling him that he would be returning the same day.

West Bengal Police said since then the Bangladeshi Parliamentarian was missing and his cell phone was unreachable.

On May 15, Biswas informed the local police station about his missing guest. The police passed the information to the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata.

After the body of the Awami League MP was recovered from the flat in New Town, police came to know that he had taken that apartment on rent for quite some time.

Police said the other residents of the complex have told the investigating officers that some people used to frequent that flat to meet the MP.

A team of the Bidhannagar City police is investigating the matter and are looking into the footage of the CCTV cameras installed within the residential complex.

They are also trying to trace the identity of the people who used to frequent the flat, where the Bangladeshi MP used to live.
