Lakhimpur Kheri: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the relatives of deceased farmers on Wednesday night.

Earlier, bowing to political pressure, Uttar Pradesh government has given permission to Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and three other people to visit Lakhimpur Kheri.

The decision was taken after chief minister Yogi Adityanath held a meeting with the officials and assessed the prevailing situation on Wednesday morning.

While Priyanka has been released from police custody in Sitapur, Rahul Gandhi reached Lucknow airport along with some senior Congress leaders including CMs of Punjab and Chhattisgarh.

UP government has also allowed all political parties, in a group of not more than five members, to visit Lakhimpur.

Meanwhile, State Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about Sunday's Lakhimpur Kheri violence in which eights people, including four farmers, were killed.

UP government has also sent a detailed report to the Union Home Ministry on the incident. (Inputs from UNI)
