New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Dr Subramanian Swamy, on Thursday mentioned the Rama Setu matter before the Supreme Court, stating that the Centre has not filed a counter on the plea for its recognition as a heritage monument.

On March 16, 2018, the Centre had informed the top court that in the "interest of the nation" it will not damage the mythological Ram Setu, off the coast of Ramaeswaram, for its Sethusamudram Ship Channel project.

A bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobde, asked the petitioner to mention the matter again after three months."We will see what can we do," CJI Bobde said.

Dr Swamy asked Apex Court to consider urgently his plea to recognise the mythical bridge, which faith holds was built by Lord Ram's vanar sena,  as an ancient monument by the ASI (Archaeological Survey of India). Apex Court also asked Union of India to file a detailed response on Dr Swamy's petition. (UNI)
