UP CM Yogi Adityanath announces 3-day state mourning on Mulayam Singh Yadav's death, last rites in Saifai on Tuesday

Lucknow: Last rites of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav will be held at his native village Saifai in Etawah district at 3 pm on Tuesday.
It was confirmed by the party he founded in October 1992. "Respected Netaji passed away at Medanta hospital today on October 10, 2022. His body is being taken to Saifai. Last rites will be performed in Saifai at 3 pm tomorrow on October 11, 2022," the party tweeted.
Announcing three days state mourning on his predecessor’s death, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath tweeted: "The demise of former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav ji is extremely sad.
"His death marked the end of a major pillar of socialism and a struggling era." Adityanath spoke to Mulayam Singh's son Akhilesh Yadav on the phone and also said: "His last rites will be performed with full state honours."
Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away after prolonged illness on Monday. He was 82.
His son and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav confirmed the news. "My respected father and your Netaji is no more," he tweeted in Hindi.
The three-time former chief minister was admitted in Medanta hospital in Haryana's Gurugram for the last few days following multiple complications. His condition was critical and he was on ventilator support.
Popularly known as Netaji among party brass and political service, Mulayam Singh served as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh thrice.
He also served as the Defence Minister in the HD Dewegowda government.
Born in a small village Saifai in Etawah district, he joined politics after getting influenced by socialist leaders Dr Ram Manohar Lohia and Raj Narain. (Inputs from UNI)
