A 3 month jail term and 3 yr suspension if Prashant Bhushan fails to pay Rs1 fine

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday in its order imposed a token fine of Rs one on advocate Prashant Bhushan in the contempt case against him, failing which he will be sentenced to 3 months in jail and suspension of his practice for 3 years.A bench of the Apex Court, headed by Justice Arun Mishra passed the order.
"We are imposing fine of Rs one on advocate Prashant Bhushan in contempt case. If he fails to pay the amount, he will be sentenced to 3 months in jail and suspension of his practice for 3 years," Justice Mishra, reading the Judgement said, while pronouncing it through videoconferencing.
 
The Apex Court had earlier on August 14 held Prashant Bhushan guilty of suo motu criminal contempt for his tweets.Prashant Bhushan, was held guilty by the Top Court for criminal contempt for "malicious and scurrilous" tweets against CJI Sharad Arvind Bobde and four past Chief Justices of India.(UNI)
