SC issues notice to Delhi police in Sunanda Pashkar case

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Delhi Police after hearing an appeal filed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Dr Subramaniam Swamy, challenging the Delhi High Court order which had refused for a SIT probe in connection with the death of Sunanda Pushkar, the wife of Congress leader Sashi Tharoor.
A three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra and also comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud, issued notice to the Delhi Police and sought a detailed reply from it on Swamy's appeal.
Dr Swmy had filed the appeal against the Delhi High Court order which had dismissed his plea for a multidisciplinary SIT (Special Investigation Team) or CBI probe in connection with the death of Sunanda Pushkar.The Delhi High Court had dismissed his plea and he had subsequently moved the Supreme Court. The Delhi High Court, while dismissing Swamy's plea, had termed it as a ‘Political Interest Litigation’. (UNI)
