The act was enacted to nullify the effects of the March 20, 2018 judgment of the court which had diluted the provisions of the Act. In its judgement, a bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra, said, "Unless the SC/ST Act is enforced in true letter and spirit, dream of establishing a class-less society would remain a mirage."
