UP Assembly Polls, Phase 2: 23 percent turnout in 4 hrs, highest in Moradabad, Saharanpur

Lucknow: Polling picked up as 23.03 per cent votes were polled for 55 seats in the second phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on Monday.

As per the information given by the Chief Electoral Officer's office Moradabad district recorded the highest voter turnout of 25.99 per cent in the first four hours of polling, whereas Bareilly district has recorded the lowest turnout at 20.99 per cent.

Among other districts Saharanpur recorded 25.26 per cent, Bijnor 24.34 per cent, Sambhal 22.95 per cent, Rampur 21.76 per cent, Amroha 22.99, Badaun 21.87 per cent and Shahjahanpur 21.58 per cent polling till 11 am.

Additional CEO BDR Tiwari said that polling is being held peacefully in all the districts. As per reports in Moradabad districts residents of Nagla Jatni village under Kundarki assembly constituency boycotted polling over lack of development in their area.

There were also reports of problems in EVMs at a few booths in Saharanpur, Bareilly and Amroha. Reports said that polling was delayed by an hour at booth number 426 and 429 in Bareilly due to problems in the EVMs. (UNI)
