Kerala: Horses, which run away from Horse Riding Academy after hearing wild elephants trumpeting, hit by vehicles on NH, 1 killed, 2 injured

Palakkad: Out of 7 horses that had freed themselves from a Horse Riding Academy after hearing the trumpeting of wild elephants, three were hit by vehicles on the National Highway here killing one and injuring two, sources said on Friday.
After hearing the elephant trumpeting, the frightened horses wandered into the roadway and were hit by vehicles at Vaniampara and Melechungath, near Kuthiran tunnel which is along the Mannuthy-Wadakkanchery stretch on the NH between Thrissur and Palakkad districts, on Wednesday night.
In the tragic incident, one horse died on the spot after being hit by a lorry and two others were seriously injured in separate collisions in which a motorcycle passenger was also injured, who was shifted to the Thirissur Government General Hospital.
The other 4 horses were rescued with the help of public and brought back to the Horse Riding Academy, which is situated near to the Peechi Reservoir, owned by Kunnumpuram Babu. (UNI)
