Man who married and duped 14 women in 7 states arrested from Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Monday arrested a fraudster who posing as a doctor, has duped lakhs of rupees from several women after marrying them.
Bhubaneswar DCP, Umashankar Dash told newsmen here that the fraudster identified as Ramesh Swain, was arrested from a rented house in Khandagiri in the city and booked under sections- 498 (A), 419, 468, 471 and 494 of IPC.
The Police have recovered several ATM and Aadhaar cards with different names and a school certificate from Bihar from his possession He will be forwarded to the court and the police. Mr.Dash said would seek his remand to further interrogate him in connection with the case and also the financial implication as nine of 14 women whom the accused had duped after marrying them are now in touch with the commissioner of police.
Swain was arrested on the basis of an FIR lodged by a Delhi-based teacher with the Mahila Police Station here in July 2021.The woman teacher in her complaint alleged that Swain had married her at the Arya Samaj temple in New Delhi and later duped her.
The DCP said Swain with the help of matrimonial site used to target middle-aged and educated women who were single and looking for companions as his intention was to marry and later duped them.
Dash said the accused had married in 2002 and again in 2002 posing himself as a doctor and had five children from these two wives. Later during 2002 to 2020 he had married as many as eleven more women and abandoned them. Most of the victims, the police said, were from other states.
The DCP said in 2018, Swain had allegedly cheated Rs 10 lakh from a woman, a central armed forces employee, after marrying her at a Gurudwara. He had duped Rs 11 lakh from the Gurudwara officials introducing him as the Director of Health and Family Welfare department and promised to give permission to open a hospital inside the Gurudwar premises.
Police sources further said Swain was also arrested in 2011 by the Hyderabad Special Task Force for collecting huge money from the students aspiring to join MBBS course. He had also duped several job aspirants from many parts of the country. (UNI)
