Bengaluru: The jail authorities at Parappana Agrahara here, who are facing serious corruption charges, had allotted as many as five rooms in the new building of the Central jail to AIADMK leader V K Sasikala and she was accorded special treatment. Sources said that this was revealed by new ADGP S Megharik and DIG Revanna before the Public Affairs Committee headed by former Deputy Chief Minister R Ashok, which had held its meeting last week.

The two officials replaced Mr Satyanarayana Rao and Ms D Roopa who held the two positions earlier and were transferred following the unearthing of the major scam. Following a report submitted by Ms Roopa alleging that a bribe of Rs two crore was given to jail officials by the AIADMK leader and notorious Fake Stamp Paper Scam main accused Abdul Karim Telgi was also given special treatment in return for money, the Karnataka government had transferred both the officials and ordered a high level inquiry.

Sources said that Mr Megharik and Mr Revanna had told the Committee that indeed Ms Sasikala and Telgi were given special treatment. After he took over, he had taken stringent steps to check such corrupt practices in the jail, Mr Megharik reportedly told the Committee. Ms Roopa had alleged in her report that Ms Sasikala was given special treatment and the jail authorities had allowed her to have a special kitchen in her cell and some of the inmates drafted to serve her and make dishes of her preference. She had also alleged that former ADGP and other top officials had accepted a bribe of Rs two crore.

This had led to the transfer of both top officials besides Chief Jail Superintendent Krishna Kumar who was also shunted out. Reports said special treatment given to the two high profile inmates were immediately withdrawn after unearthing of the scam. While Ms Sasikala is serving a four year term after a court verdict in the Disproportionate Assets Case involving late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, Telagi is facing a large number of cases involving in fake stamp paper scam that ran into thousands of crores rupees and serving a long term from the cases decided so far.
