Agartala: The District and Sessions Court of Khowai on Friday awarded life imprisonment to a 26-year-old youth for killing his mother on February 16 last year after a quarrel over visiting puja on a motorbike with friends.
According to court proceedings, Maran Debnath was persuading his mother Suniti Debnath (45) to go for an outing along with his friend on a motorbike. But Suniti didn’t allow him as only a few days earlier Maran had met with a road accident. Instead, she suggested Maran go on foot with his sister.
Angry with his mother, Maran attacked his mother and sister with a stick. Although sister Shikha managed to escape, the mother couldn’t and became unconscious.
The family members including Maran shifted her to a hospital, where she died after three days. Maran ran away leaving behind the body in the hospital.
The victim’s husband, Rajkumar Debnath, registered a murder case against his son. Finally, Maran Debnath surrendered in a court in June this year. (UNI)
