Twitter shows J&K, Ladakh as separate country, India head booked

Bulandshahr: Twitter India's MD Manish Maheshwari and another company official have been booked here under various sections of IPC for showing incorrect map of India.

The FIR was registered on the complaint by a Bajrang Dal join convener in Khurja police station in Bulandshahr district.

Mr Maheshwari and Twitter India head Amrita Tripathi have been booked under Section 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 74 of IT (Amendment) Act 2008 for showing the wrong map of India on its website.

The FIR was registered at 2227 hrs on Monday at Khurja police station.

The police complaint at Khurja police station was lodged by a Bajrang Dal joint convener and a lawyer by profession Praveen Bhati of Murli Nagar locality in Khurja after he saw the wrong map of the country at around 1500 hrs on Monday.

In his complaint, the Bajrang Dal leader has demanded for registration of cases under NSA against the Twitter and another person for hurting the sentiments of the countrymen. He also called it an ''anti-national'' act.

Meanwhile, police said they are investigating the matter after receiving the complaint and registering a FIR.

Twitter had removed the controversial map that showed Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as laying outside the borders of India.

On late Monday (June 28) night, the global map which earlier appeared under the 'Career' section of the Twitter website under the header 'Tweep Life' was removed completely from the webpage. (UNI)
