UP govt refuses to impose lockdown in 5 major cities despite HC order

Lucknow: Even after directive from the Allahabad High Court for a week-long lockdown in 5 big cities of the state to control surge in the Corona cases, Uttar Pradesh government has politely refused to accept the HC order.

Spokesperson for the UP government in its written statement here on Monday evening said, “The Government has taken many steps, even more strict steps would be taken. State government is saving life along with saving the livelihood of the poor. So the cities will not have a complete lockdown yet as several people are selflessly imprisoning themselves in many places.”

Earlier too during the meeting with his officials Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has refused to go for complete lockdown in the state like Delhi. But has asked the authorities to be more strict on enforcing the Covid guidelines.

Allahabad high court in its order had asked the UP government to enforce lockdown in five cities of Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur and Gorakhpur from tonight to April 26. (UNI)
