Malda: About nine people were injured after lightning struck them whilst they stood under a tree to save themselves from drenching in West Bengal's Malda district on Friday, official sources said.
All the injured received burn wounds of various degrees, and have been taken to Bulbulchandi gramme in Habibpur for treatment, they added.
The farmers, who were tilting the land this morning to pick up the standing crops at Bhawanipur village, had rushed to the shade of the tree to save them from rain, struck by the lightning.
A separate report from South 24 Parganas said a mistress of a government-run school and some of her students were also wounded when lightning struck at the school building on Thursday.
The students and their teacher were from an ICDS school at Haiderpara under Mandirbazar police station in South 24 Parganas. However, all the wounded were released after being given first aid from a nearby hospital. (UNI)
