A 35-year-old woman, suffering from psychiatric issues, died after swallowing a keypad cell phone in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh.
Penumalla Ramya Smruthi, a resident of Bommuru, was admitted to the Government General Hospital in Rajahmundry on Saturday.
When a relative's mobile phone went missing, Smruthi revealed that she had swallowed it.
Doctors performed surgery and successfully removed the mobile, which was lodged above the larynx (voice box).
However, during the procedure, Smruthi's heart stopped, and she had to be revived with CPR. The lack of oxygen flow to the brain severely affected her heart function. Despite initial recovery, with increased heartbeat and blood pressure, Smruthi was placed on a ventilator.
As her condition worsened, she was referred to the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Kakinada for better treatment, but unfortunately, she died while receiving treatment.
