A Class 12 student from Gorakhour narrowly escaped a tragic end late Monday night, thanks to a timely alert from Meta and a swift police response.
According to a media report, the girl from the Belghat area had a fallout with her boyfriend two days prior and was emotionally distraught when he stopped answering her calls. In a moment of emotional turmoil, she posted a disturbing message on Instagram — "Good bye in my life..." - along with an image of a noose.
At 12:48 AM, Meta's automated alert system flagged the post and immediately notified the Uttar Pradesh Police Headquarters in Lucknow via email. Acting swiftly on the information, DGP Rajiv Krishna directed the Gorakhpur district police to intervene without delay.
Rescue in Just 19 Minutes
The Belghat police traced the student's location through her Instagram activity and reached her home within 19 minutes. Upon speaking to her family, they rushed to the student's room where she had already made a noose using a dupatta. Fortunately, they arrived in time to stop the attempt and immediately took her for medical attention.
The student later confessed to taking the extreme step due to emotional distress caused by her relationship issues. She expressed regret and assured officers that she would never repeat such an act. Local police also provided counseling to the student and her family.
SP South Jitendra Kumar confirmed the incident. "The local police have counseled the girl and her family. She is now safe and has promised not to take such a step again," he said.
