Pavagada: Karnataka Congress MLA from here, Venkatramanappa, is courting controversy after slapping a youth that was captured on video and it has since gone viral.

In the purported video, the young boy is seen pleading with the lawmaker to solve drinking water and road issues his village in Tumkur district has been facing.

The incident took place near the taluk office in Pavagada. The video was uploaded on Wednesday by the BJP as well.

Narasimha Murthy from Nagennahalli village can be seen complaining about the poor road condition and unavailability of water in his village in the video. The MLA is found listening to the complaint. He keeps his right hand on the youth's shoulder as the pleading continues. Then out of the blues, he suddenly slaps him and abuses him before getting into his car.

Clarifying the incident, Venkatramanappa said the youth was mentally challenged and was abusing him.

BJP in Karnataka posted a tweet and attached the purported video with the message, saying, "A Youth in Karnataka tried to get water problems in his village addressed by his constituency MLA. Forget solving the problem, CONgress MLA Venkataramanappa slapped the Youth. This is how CONgress addresses the problems faced by Citizens. Right, @siddaramaiah & @DKShivakumar?"

The BJP also posted an old video depicting Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar slapping a party worker in July last year. The Congress leader slapped him for trying to put his hand on his shoulder.

The BJP said the Congress leaders were adept at raising their hands (referring to the party's symbol). "Hand leaders are adept at raising their hands. During the election, voters need party workers, then both of them get slapped. "Hand holding is a heroic trait, hand raising is a villain's trait," BJP tweeted. (UNI)
