Lockdown likely in Mumbai if daily COVID-19 spike surges to 20,000 cases

Mumbai: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner Iqbal Chahal on Tuesday said that if the number of corona cases rise to 20,000 per day, then strict restrictions will be imposed in the city.
Even, state Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has already hinted that if corona figures do not come under control, then there will be no alternative but to reimpose a lockdown in the state. However, the state chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray will take a final decision in this regard, Mr Pawar said.
Two top Sena leaders test positive for COVID
Two top Shiv Sena leaders of Maharashtra, Minister Eknath Shinde and MP Arvind Sawant tested positive for COVID-19 here on Tuesday.
Shinde a close confident of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackery has been infected for the second time by the coronavirus.
"I have tested positive for corona and am undergoing medical treatment under the supervision of a doctor. With the blessings of all of you, I will overcome the infection and soon I will be at your service. People who have come in contact with me in the last few days should be careful," Shinde tweeted.
Meanwhile Sawant has also announced on social media that he has tested positive for COVID-19.
The number of COVID cases rose to 12,160 during the last 24 hours in the state, even as the capital Mumbai recorded 8082 new cases in the last 24 hours, as per a release issued by the health department. (Inputs from UNI)
