This year Ganesh Utsav, which began on 27 August 2025, will conclude with Ganesh Visarjan on Saturday, 6 September 2025. The immersion of Lord Ganesha's idol is considered a very sacred ritual, and devotees are advised to follow certain rules and traditions while bidding farewell to Bappa. It is believed that if these guidelines are not observed properly, Lord Ganesha may not be pleased.
Rules for Ganesh Visarjan
1. Seek Blessings First - Before immersion, bow at Lord Ganesha's feet and seek blessings for health, wealth, and prosperity of the entire family.
2. Perform Aarti at the Immersion Site - Offer prayers and perform kapoor aarti at the place of immersion.
3. Ask for Forgiveness - With folded hands, request Lord Ganesha to forgive any mistakes made during the 10 days of worship.
4. Show Respect During Immersion - Do not throw the idol or puja items carelessly. Immerse everything with devation and respect.
5. Immerse Idol Gently - Slowly move the idol forward into the water instead of dropping it.
6. Do Parikrama - Before immersion, do parikrama three times in a clockwise direction.
7. Bid a Humble Farewell - Return home, asking for forgiveness with folded hands and inviting Bappa to come again next year.
8. Home Immersion Rituals - If immersion is done at home in a tub or pond, follow the same rituals with devotion.
9. Collect Nirmalya Properly - Gather flowers, garlands, and other offerings (Nirmalya) at one place and immerse them respectfully in water.
10. Eco-Friendly Practice at Home - If immersion is done at home, pour the water and soil into pots or your garden.
