New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, when Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram is being observed, recalled the sacrifice of Imam Hussain and said his emphasis on equality as well as fairness are noteworthy and give strength to many.
“We recall the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS). For him, there was nothing more important than the values of truth and justice. His emphasis on equality as well as fairness are noteworthy and give strength to many,” said Mr Modi in his tweet.
We recall the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS). For him, there was nothing more important than the values of truth and justice. His emphasis on equality as well as fairness are noteworthy and give strength to many.
Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram is celebrated as the annual commemoration of Imam Hussain’s martyrdom.
It is observed with great reverence by Muslims across the globe. Prophet Muhammed, who migrated from Mecca to Medina during Muharram, observed a fast on the day of Ashura. Therefore, Sunni Muslims observe a voluntary fast on this day to pay obeisance to the Prophet.
However, the day of Ashura is important for the Shia Muslims for a different reason. The 10th of Muharram marks the date when, Prophet Muhammed’s grandson, Imam Hussain, and his little son were brutally killed by a ruler in the battle of Karbala. (UNI)
