Hyderabad: Doctors at SLG Hospitals in the city, on Sunday saved the life of a 48-year-old woman patient from Karnataka, who suffered life-threatening ‘brain haemorrhage’ as a post-Covid complication.

Though doctors have noticed neurological complications among those who contracted the Covid-19 virus, not many instances have been reported around the world for brain haemorrhage.

Ms Indrani M, a resident of Belgaum town, who suffered a paralytic attack on the left side of her body; was air-lifted from her hometown to SLG Hospital in Hyderabad last month, the hospital said in a release here on Monday.

The victim was earlier treated for mild Covid-19 pneumonia symptoms at Belgaum, and this neurological complication was possibly due to the after-effects of coronavirus infection.

Commenting on the complication, Dr Abhinay Huchche, Consultant Neurologist, SLG Hospitals, who treated the patient said, A 3x4 cm size clot was noticed in the right brain of the patient, who reported severe headache and immobility in the left-side of her body. Blood thinners were administered on the patient during Covid-19 treatment, and high blood pressure are the probable reasons for her brain haemorrhage.

At SLG Hospital, we immediately treated the victim for swelling in the brain and brought her high blood pressure under control. Subsequently, the patient was kept under observation and treated gradually, the Neurologist said.

“Many young and middle-aged patients are developing diabetes and hypertension post Covid-19 recovery and these complications could have adverse impact on individuals overall health.

It is important people watch their vitals like diabetes and blood pressure levels, and ensure proper care is taken to avoid serious complications,” Dr. Abhinay added.

Ms Indrani was kept under constant expert observation for seven days and was discharged on June 18 after she was considered fit to return to her regular routine.

Neurological stress is an associated problem in these times of a global pandemic, hence it is important people maintain their health, watch their diet, and lead a happy and healthy lifestyle to avoid health impediments. (UNI)
